To: Tiernan Irish Dancers - March 13, 2007

"The beat of the music, even louder, the beat of dancers’ hard shoes on the gym floor—the movement of young limber bodies moving with exuberance. I was simply drawn in by the beauty of this unusual group."

Perhaps it is my Irish heritage! Maybe that’s why I feel so drawn to the group, the music! As the celtic music wafted through the air, my eyes misted with tears, in my minds eye, I could almost see Grandma as a young girl dancing on the green hills of Ireland.

I watched with awe as they danced as a team. It was just all teamwork as they danced their hearts out! I was so impressed to see the oneness of the group.

"This group was learning more than dancing! They were learning life skills. Learning to encourage and challenge each other, being truly supportive and happy for their teammate’s success. Is this not even more valuable than dancing? Learning what it means to be part of a community, belonging, having a group of people cheering you on."

The older members were literally sheperding the younger ones; and the beginners were istening to and following the directions of the more experienced dancers. I could see how the younger would look up to the older and see them as role models! Lessons beyond dancing again being learned!
